At present the Board is the biggest examining body in the World. The Board was set up in the year 1921 at Allahabad. This Board is one in India which, from the very start, had adopted 10+2 system of examination. The first public examination after 10 years education is High School Examination and after the 10+2 stage, there is Intermediate Examination. Number of Schools under UP board In Uttar Pradesh a few secondary schools are being governed by the Indian Council of School Education ( I.C.S.E. ) and Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E. ), but most of the Secondary schools seek recognition of the U.P. Board. At present there are 9121 secondary schools recognized by the U.P. Board of High School and Intermediate Education.
The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) has decided to do away with the merit list system from this year. In wake of this, the Board will not declare the top 25 students in intermediate and high school results, to be announced on Wednesday and Saturday respectively. The Board will also not announce the names of toppers. Till last year, UP Board was the only board to declare the merit lists. "No other Board in the country including CICSE and CBSE declares merit list.UPSEB National Curriculum Framework which discourages the merit list system since it often demoralises students who do not figure in it.
